1st Eye Visit for Jake

We had Jacob's first eye doctor visit yesterday. At his preschool screening last month, the school nurse found that Jacob's eyes are reading differently. His right eye is 10/20 and left is 10/10. She recommended a professional examination before he starts school.

When we had Jacob's 3 year check up over the summer, his ped doctor suggested that children get an eye exam prior to starting school. So she had referred us to a place in Monticello called Uptown Eye Clinic when the time came. So it was nice having a place recommended. They were so nice from the moment we walked thru the doorway.

After Jacob's eye exam, Mary the optometrist suggested that Jacob get glasses! He has the beginnings of amblyopia, a lazy eye. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0002009. It's hereditary ... both my mom and Adrien had it when they were little girls, my brother has one, Kendall's brother Paul.

Our main goal for the glasses is to help his right eye catch up to his left eye. Right now the left is doing all the work. Lets cross fingers and toes that the glasses are the answer. Mary said, she hates putting kids in glasses and its her last resort but if Jacob were her child, she would put him in glasses. Well, she's the professional :)
