We had a busy weekend this past weekend. Friday night we helped celebrate Trevor's 40th birthday at the Spicer Legion. Ashley had it set up for Jeff James to play. He is absolutely amazing! If you ever get a chance, you won't be disappointed. It was great seeing family and fun catching up with our Spicer friends. While we were out having fun, Jake was helping Adrien with Keean and Owen at Ashley/Trevor's house. They had a great time and Jake was snug as a bug next to Adrien when we got home.
Saturday afternoon, we headed for Starbuck to be apart of our niece Michele's wedding. The whole wedding from start to finish was held at the Minnewaska House. We stuck around for a few dances and at least one performance from Jake. He actually got up on the stage and sang along with the music to Blake Shelton - Be Good if You Did. He did so good and that smile of his afterwards was priceless. I think we have a performer on our hands. It amazes us how he can be so introverted yet the moment he gets behind a microphone nothing else really matters.
Before leaving Starbuck on Sunday, we met up with my brother Jon for breakfast. He treated us a hearty meal at the local "Nutcracker" restaurant. Nothing like seeing Christmas trees and decorations still set up in May. Wish we could see Jon more often. I miss him :)
Once we got home, I had missed a call from my dad while we were inside the boarding kennel picking Kinzie up. He left a message saying my mom had fallen while getting ready for church and to give him a call.
Long story short ... Mom was getting ready for church, was putting her second leg into the pant leg when it got stuck. She lost her balance from leaning against the pole in the basement. When she fell, she broke her right ankle on both sides of the foot. She laid on the floor for almost 2 hours until my dad got home. He walked in the back door and was greeted with a, "Hello, I'm down here!" He rushed down the stairs to find mom trying to get herself up off the floor. He was able to get her into the chair, but knew he couldn't get her up the steps. He put a call into cousin Jim who was able to carry Mom up the stairs on his back. Together they got her to the hospital where they took x-rays only to find out that they couldn't handle that extensive of a break. Her choices were the Cities or St. Cloud. She of course, picked St. Cloud knowing it was closer for Kim and I. Dad was able to drive Mom to St. Cloud on his own. We met them as soon as they were checking in ER. We waited for a couple hours before everything was set in stone that Mom would be going into surgery that night. The surgery lasted a little over an hour. The surgeon came out afterwards and explained with Mom's history the bones in her foot were soft. This changed things up a bit. The doctor had to put in a larger plate on the back of the break and a couple screws on the other side. This plate is not weight bearing, but is to help keep the bones together. With this being said, she cannot put any pressure or drive for at least 6 weeks and our only option to make sure she gets the best care is to put her in extending care at a nursing home until she feels comfortable going home.
As of this morning, she is doing as well as expected. Starting to feel more pain and is uncomfortable but seems to be in good spirits. Poor lady has been through a ringer these past 10 years. Broken hip, broken femur and now a broken foot along with being diganosed with Dystonia a form of Parkinson's. I know we should be grateful she's alive and breathing, but my goodness, I think she's experienced enough already. If you're in the Monte area, give her a call. I'm sure she would love to see you!
